The French Institute in Israel supports the 39th edition of the Haifa International
Film Festival, which this year welcomes French actress and director MaÏwenn. She
will present her latest film “Jeanne du Barry”, presented at the opening of the last
Cannes Film Festival as well as that of Haifa.
Until October 7, the Israeli public will be able to discover 14 French films, or made in
co-production with France, selected by the Haifa International Film Festival for its
39th edition, with the support of the French Institute of Israel . All films are offered
exclusively in Israel and presented in preview, for those who will have the chance to
be released on Israeli screens soon.
Among these, in addition to the sulfurous “Jeanne du Barry” by Maïwenn which
recounts the love at first sight of King Louis Justine Triet's film, “Anatomy of a
Fall”, Palme d'Or at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. Another title noticed at Cannes,
“The Passion of Dodin Bouffant” by Hùng Tran Anh which won the Best Director
Award scene, which will delight fans of “food films” since it devotes the entire
preparation of a pot-au-feu, by Juliette Binoche and Benoît Magimel!
Also worth seeing is the film by François Ozon, “My Crime” which features actress
Nadia Tereszkiewicz, who was part of the cast of the Franco-Israeli mini-series
“Possessions” with Réda Ketab, and who received the César for best female hopeful in
2023 for her performance in the film “Les Amandiers” by Valéria Bruni-Tedeschi.
The festival will also show French films, already released in theaters in France, and
of which the Cannes selection has been particularly noted. Among two of these films,
“The Goldman Trial” by Cédric Kahn, and Michel Gondry’s film, “The Book of
Solutions” with Pierre Niney and Blanche Gardin, whose national releases are
scheduled for September.
Also in the selection, the film by Léa Fehner, “Midwives” about the daily life of a
maternity service on the verge of implosion, and the documentary “My worst enemy”
by Iranian director Mehran Tamadon who, stuck in France , imagine the
interrogation he would have to undergo if he tried to return to Iran... Mehran
